Francisca Zúñiga

Director of Español en Chile Institute
Francisca Zúñiga holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Hispanic Language and Literature from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC) and a Master’s Degree in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language from the Universidad de Salamanca (USAL), Spain. To complement her training, she has participated in numerous courses, workshops, and conferences in her field, as well as language courses abroad, including English in Canada and the United States, and Italian in Italy. She has been working as a Spanish teacher for international students since 2009.
In 2012, she founded the Español en Chile Institute, where she has served as Director since its establishment. In 2018, she combined her role at the institute with teaching Spanish to diplomats and officials of the United Nations (UN) at ECLAC (Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean). Since 2022, she has dedicated herself exclusively to directing and coordinating the institute.

Constanza Arce

Spanish Teacher
Constanza graduated in 2021 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Hispanic Language and Literature from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). In 2022, she completed a Diploma in Spanish as a Foreign Language at the same university, graduating at the top of her class with a score of 6.9 out of 7.0. During her undergraduate years, she began teaching Spanish to international students and contributed to the creation of a Language Learning Manual for the Jesuit Migrant Service—an experience that inspired her to pursue a career in teaching Spanish. Her passion for literature also led her to serve as a teaching assistant in Spanish Literature.
In addition to her academic work, Constanza has a strong interest in language learning and its role in fostering cultural exchange. She has an intermediate–advanced level of English (IELTS General Training) and is currently studying Korean, motivated by her interest in the history and culture of Korea. She has also worked in text editing and proofreading and continues to collaborate on literary research projects.

Raúl Córtes

Spanish Teacher
Raúl is an English–Spanish translator who graduated from the Universidad Chileno-Británica de Cultura (UCBC) and is fluent in both languages. His passion for teaching Spanish began during his university years, which led him to complete a Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). Raúl has extensive teaching experience and has taught both English and Spanish at a variety of schools and educational institutions. He is currently dedicated to offering private lessons and collaborating with several language centers, where he shares his knowledge and enthusiasm for languages with his students. His commitment to excellence and his ability to adapt to the individual needs of his learners make him a highly valued and respected teacher in his field.

Armando Carvajal

Spanish Teacher
Armando holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Literature with a specialization in Text Editing from the Universidad Finis Terrae (UFT). During his studies, he developed a passion for teaching and applied linguistics, which led to his interest in teaching Spanish as a foreign language. To pursue this path, he completed specialized training at Tía Tula Spanish School in Salamanca, Spain, where he gained pedagogical expertise in teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE). He later earned a Master’s in Linguistics (with a focus on the Spanish language) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Second and Foreign Language from the University of Chile (UCH). His master’s research focused on language policies for teaching Spanish as a second language.
Armando began his ELE teaching career in virtual settings, which encouraged him to pursue further training in online teaching strategies through Tía Tula. He has since taught in a wide range of contexts, including programs for refugee students of diverse nationalities, and has experience in both private tutoring and classroom instruction. Beyond teaching, Armando conducts research on second language acquisition, bilingualism, and language policies in migration contexts. He has also presented at academic conferences and symposiums, contributing to discussions on Spanish instruction in linguistically and culturally diverse environments.

Pilar Leiva

Spanish Teacher
Pilar graduated in 2011 with Bachelor’s Degree in Hispanic Language and Literature from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). That same year, she discovered her vocation for teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language while taking the course Challenging Milestones in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language, which led her to participate in activities for international students in the Spanish UC program. In 2012, she earned a teaching Degree in Spanish Language and Communication from Universidad Diego Portales (UDP) and began her professional career teaching Spanish as a foreign language at prestigious institutions in Santiago.
In 2025, she completed a Master’s in Linguistics at PUC, specializing in Spanish dialectal variation and the development of interlanguage in learners of Spanish as a foreign language. Pilar is currently enhancing her English proficiency and conducting independent research. Her work has been published in both national and international academic journals. Her dynamic and professional approach, combined with a strong background in linguistics, makes her a committed educator dedicated to meaningful learning and a reflective, context-based approach to Spanish language teaching.

Christel Ramírez

Spanish Teacher
Christel holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English Language and Literature from the Universidad de Chile (UCH), where she was first introduced to the field of Teaching Spanish as a Second Language through elective courses. By the end of her program, she volunteered with the Language Conversation Partner Program at Stanford University (SU), where she engaged with learners of Spanish from diverse cultural backgrounds, further strengthening her interest in language teaching.
In 2023, she completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Second and Foreign Language (ELE) at UCH, where she also volunteered in a language support program for Brazilian students training to become Spanish teachers. She speaks English as a foreign language and has experience teaching and assessing both Spanish and English with children, teenagers, and adults. Christel has also worked as an examiner in schools and as a language instructor at language institutes, teaching Spanish to students from Japan, the United States, Australia, Canada, China, India, and France.
Her teaching follows the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) methodology, complemented by a sociocultural approach. She aims to help students communicate effectively in diverse contexts by developing their communicative competence, while also highlighting the importance of Chilean Spanish as a valid variety of the language.

Cristina Reyes

Spanish Teacher
Cristina Reyes holds a Law degree from the Universidad de Sevilla (US) and a Master’s Degree in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language from the Universidad de La Rioja (UR) (Spain). She has also completed specialized training in online language teaching and is a certified DELE examiner through the Instituto Cervantes, enabling her to prepare students with first-hand knowledge of the official assessment criteria. She has developed her professional career teaching Spanish both in person and online, working in Spanish language academies and institutes in Spain, Egypt, and South America.
Throughout her experience, she has taught students from Arab, Asian, American, and European backgrounds, adapting her methodology to different cultural contexts and levels of linguistic proficiency. Her dual background in Law and Spanish language teaching allows her to design courses in Business Spanish and Spanish for professional purposes, bringing a rigorous and practical perspective to the use of the language in business environments. Her communicative and structured approach aims to help students develop confidence in academic and professional settings, bringing commitment, approachability, and professionalism to every learning process.

Eyleen Prieto

Spanish Teacher
Eyleen holds a BA in Language, specializing in Linguistics, which she earned in 2012 from UCLV in Santa Clara, Cuba. Her diverse career spans teaching at the University of Arts in Havana to her current role as a Spanish instructor on a leading online platform. She has consistently demonstrated expertise in teaching students of different levels and nationalities, excelling at adapting her materials to meet the unique needs of each learner.
Since moving to Chile in 2015, Eyleen has gained a deep understanding of Chilean Spanish, allowing her to adjust her teaching to the linguistic and cultural backgrounds of her diverse student base. She has recently graduated from a Master’s Degree in Linguistics at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC), further strengthening her knowledge of the language and its educational applications.
Proactive, organized, and empathetic, Eyleen builds strong connections with her students through adaptability and effective communication. Her passion for teaching, combined with her cheerful and positive approach, makes her a valuable member of our team.

Julián Hernández

Spanish Teacher
Julián holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Literature, Linguistics, and Aesthetics from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). Since 2021, he has worked as a Spanish teacher, offering private lessons and teaching refugees in humanitarian aid programs. In 2023, he completed a Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at PUC.
During his studies, he developed a strong interest in language teaching and learning, and went on to study French, Portuguese, and English. After completing his degree in Aesthetics in 2024, Julián deepened his interest in literature and its intersections with psychology and philosophy.
He currently teaches at several language institutes, where he motivates and inspires his students. He is also interested in reading and creative writing, participating in various reading clubs and writing workshops. This calling has helped him bring new and different perspectives to his Spanish classes.

Amílcar Noguera

Spanish Teacher
Amílcar is a professional Spanish–English–Italian translator who graduated from the Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV) in 2010. He has extensive experience in translating technical manuals and IT-related texts. In 2012, he earned a Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language from the same university, and since then he has taught Spanish for both general and business purposes. He currently provides language services for the Australian Embassy in Santiago.
Amílcar describes himself as a “citizen of the world,” with a friendly personality and strong adaptability to different contexts.

Catalina Espinosa

Spanish Teacher
Catalina holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a specialization in French and French Teaching from the Universidad de Ciencias de la Educación (UMCE, 2012). In 2010 and 2011, she lived in Saint-Céré, France, where she taught Spanish to children and young adults at several schools in the Toulouse region of southern France. During this experience, French became her second language, and she also discovered her passion for teaching Spanish language and culture; a passion she pursued upon returning to Chile. Since 2011, she has taught Spanish both privately and at language schools to students from around the world.
Catalina also has an artistic side. For more than six years, she was a member of her university’s chorus, which allowed her to tour throughout South America. She has also taken part in various theater, storytelling, and visual arts groups. These interests, together with her love of learning about new cultures and traveling, have greatly enriched her work as a foreign language teacher.

Gabriela Gateño

Spanish Teacher
Gabriela holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Hispanic Language and Literature from the Universidad de Chile (UCH). She also earned a Master’s degree in Literature from the same university and obtained her Spanish teaching degree from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). Her academic interests focus mainly on poetry and philosophy, areas in which she specialized through her postgraduate thesis.
With extensive teaching experience, Gabriela has taught literature courses at universities, colleges, academies, and cultural centers. She also has broad experience teaching Spanish to international students at prestigious institutes across Chile, complementing her teaching with the management of cultural and educational projects in collaboration with embassies. She currently devotes herself to university teaching, offering seminars and teaching literature workshops.

César Noriega

Spanish Teacher
César is a journalist and Spanish professor. In 2016, he moved from Venezuela to Chile, where he has since internalized the nuances of Chilean Spanish and integrates them into his teaching approach. Since earning his degree in Journalism from the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (UCAB) in Venezuela, he has worked with language as a communication tool to describe, narrate, and highlight complex realities.
His passion for teaching Spanish led him to pursue a Master’s in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at the Universitat de Barcelona (UB) in Spain. He has taught Spanish to multinational executives, university students, and diplomatic representatives, both online and in person. César speaks English at a C1 proficiency level and German at a B1 level.
In his classes, he emphasizes language reflection, practical application, and cultural immersion, always connecting Spanish to Chilean and broader Latin American contexts. As a journalist, he enriches his teaching with discussions of current affairs, as well as references to history, literature, and other cultural dimensions of Latin America.

William Godoy

Spanish Teacher
William Godoy is an English teacher with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education in English from the Universidad de Santiago de Chile (USACH). He also holds a Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC) and a Master’s Degree in Applied Linguistics from the University of Nottingham (UoN). He has worked as an English teacher in secondary and tertiary education, as well as an academic coordinator. William also teaches Spanish to international students living in Santiago and to learners abroad through online classes.
He is a certified DELE B1 and B2 examiner and holds an additional certificate in teaching Spanish to children. In addition to English, he has knowledge of German and French, and is currently studying Japanese. Learning Japanese has enhanced his approach to language teaching and learning, enabling him to better identify the challenges faced by students who speak these languages.
His main research interest is the acquisition and teaching of collocations, with further interests in corpus linguistics, materials design, and intercultural communication.

Javier Garrido

Spanish Teacher
Javier Garrido is an English teacher who graduated from Universidad Alberto Hurtado (UAH) in 2017, after completing an exchange program at the Australian Catholic University (ACU) in Melbourne, Australia. Since 2018, he has taught English to elementary and high school students, where he has also served as Head Teacher for two cohorts. In addition, he has supported undergraduate and graduate students in preparing for the TOEFL iBT exam, designing and delivering customized programs for those seeking to study abroad.
In 2024, Javier completed a Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at the Universidad de Chile (UCH), aiming to formalize his expertise in language teaching and expand his strategies to support international learners in Chile.
He is known for his cheerful personality and his ability to design courses tailored to each student’s context and personal background. In his free time, he enjoys drawing and painting, hiking in the mountains, biking around the city, and cooking vegetarian food.

Claudia Valenzuela

Spanish Teacher
Claudia holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a specialization in French from the Universidad de Ciencias de la Educación (UMCE) and a Basic General Education degree from the Universidad Academia de Humanismo Cristiano (UAHC). She began teaching Spanish during her internship at the Lycée René Cassin in Brittany, France, in 2006 and 2007. Upon her return to Chile, she worked as both a Spanish and French teacher for children, teenagers, and adults at prestigious language institutes in Santiago.
With more than 15 years of teaching experience, Claudia’s work has two main areas: teaching French to Chilean students and teaching Spanish to international students, both in Chile and abroad. She finds great fulfillment in teaching, with a passion for sharing knowledge and helping people communicate and express themselves in both Spanish and French.
Known for her cheerful personality, Claudia creates enjoyable and engaging classroom environments that facilitate learning and foster the acquisition of new knowledge.

Rocío Torres

Spanish Teacher
Rocío earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Translation (English and French) from the Universidad de Concepción (UdeC) in 2019. Her interest in linguistic innovation led her to write her dissertation on synchronic changes in Spanish vocabulary with a focus on inclusive language. Since 2019, she has translated administrative documents—mainly from Spanish into English—and was a member of the Chilean Association of Translators and Interpreters (COTICH) from January 2022 to June 2023.
In 2020, Rocío obtained the DELF B2 diploma in French, which enabled her to work for six months as a Spanish teaching assistant in two schools in the Centre-Val-de-Loire region of France. In 2023, she earned the Cambridge C1 Advanced (CAE) diploma, certifying her level of English, and went on to teach in-person classes in Concepción.
Motivated by her growing passion for her native language, she pursued a Master’s Degree in Spanish as a Foreign Language: Teaching and Research at the Universidad de Valladolid (UVa), Spain (2023–2024). In early 2024, she completed her master’s internship at the university’s Language Center, teaching culture and conversation courses as she began her career in the field.

Ángela Galdames

Spanish Teacher
Ángela holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Hispanic Language and Literature, as well as a Degree in Aesthetics, specializing in Audiovisuals, both from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). She also earned a Graduate Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE) from the same institution. In 2017, she was certified by the Cervantes Institute to prepare students for the SIELE Exam (International Service for the Evaluation of the Spanish Language).
She has complemented her training with an English course, which enables her to use English as a foreign language, along with several workshops that have strengthened her expertise in teaching Hispanic language and culture.
Currently, Ángela also works as a professor of Language and Literature at PUC.

Amanda Moreno

Spanish Teacher
Amanda Moreno holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Hispanic Language and Literature from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). In 2022, she completed a Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at the same university. During her undergraduate studies, she developed a strong interest in Discourse Studies and Cultural Inclusion policies in Chile, which led her to participate in the Fondecyt 11181159 Project as part of her thesis.
In 2016, she took part in a student exchange program in Canterbury, England, where she studied English and obtained a certificate from the Concorde International Study Center. She is currently studying German, motivated by her interest in German culture and literature.
Amanda has experience teaching private language classes and editing academic texts. She is currently teaching Spanish on a renowned online language learning platform.

Bárbara Ferrada

Spanish Teacher
Bárbara holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Language and Literature from Universidad Alberto Hurtado (UAH), where she volunteered in a Spanish program for Haitian migrants; an experience that sparked her passion for teaching the language. In 2024, she completed a Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC).
In addition to Spanish, Bárbara has a strong command of both spoken and written English and French. She currently works in academic research as an assistant at the Phonetics and Language Sciences Laboratory at Universidad Alberto Hurtado. Her academic interests include oral expression, grammar, artificial intelligence, and natural language processing (NLP).
In her free time, Bárbara enjoys dancing, cooking, composing music, and learning programming languages.

María Ignacia Martínez

Spanish Teacher
María Ignacia graduated from the Universidad de Chile (UCH) with a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities and later pursued studies in English Language and Literature at the same university. She volunteered with the PME UChile program, supporting exchange students with their Spanish and helping them become familiar with Chilean culture.
She has experience teaching private English and Spanish classes to both adults and adolescents, and has also worked as a bilingual interviewer for the National Tourism Service. Her passion for engaging with other cultures has led her to learn French and Portuguese, and in 2020 she completed an introductory Swedish course at the Chilean Swedish Institute of Culture.
In 2021, she completed a postgraduate program in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC).

Javiera Bonilla

Spanish Teacher
Javiera holds a degree in in Hispanic Linguistics and Literature (2023) from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC) and is a Technical Degree in Tourism (2018) from DUOC UC. She first became involved in teaching Spanish in 2018, when she worked in the tourism department of several Spanish language schools in Santiago, where she began interacting with foreign students interested in learning the Spanish language and culture. That experience sparked her interest in teaching Spanish as a foreign language, motivated her to continue developing her skills.
After graduating with a degree in Literature in 2023, she has worked as a Spanish teacher in both summer programs and private classes for students of different nationalities, including Mandarin Chinese speakers. In this role, she has designed teaching materials adapted to different levels of language proficiency and developed strategies to address the cultural and linguistic particularities of her students.
Javiera has a C1 (advanced) level of English and a B1 (intermediate) level of Mandarin Chinese. In her free time, she enjoys watching movies, cooking, playing tennis, singing karaoke, and playing video games.

Anaya Badilla

Spanish Teacher
Anaya holds a Bachelor’s degree in Hispanic Literature and Linguistics with a specialization in Linguistics from the Universidad de Chile (UCH). During her undergraduate studies, she participated in several conferences and academic workshops on language, migration, digital literature, and linguistics, which broadened her understanding of the educational and sociocultural challenges faced by learners of Spanish.
In 2025, she completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Second and Foreign Language (ELE) at the Universidad de Chile (UCH), training to become a teacher of Spanish as a second language.  Anaya also has experience in applied linguistics research, particularly in areas related to migration and the linguistic inclusion of students within the Chilean school system. In addition to offering private Spanish lessons, she works on developing instructional materials tailored to learners from varied educational contexts. 
She has advanced proficiency in English, intermediate command of Italian, and basic knowledge of Korean; she is currently studying Japanese and German, further expanding her linguistic and cultural training.
