Who we are

The Institute Español en Chile is a language school located in Santiago, Chile. Our professors, all experienced and certified educators, offer Spanish classes to students of all ages and levels beginning with A1 through C2 (due to CEFR).

Francisca Zúñiga Millán

Director of Español en Chile Institute
Francisca Zúñiga holds a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish and Linguistics from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. Additionally, she got her Master’s degree in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language from the University of Salamanca, in Spain. To complete her studies, she has taken many different courses, and participated in workshops and conferences related to Spanish teaching. She has also studied English in Canada and the United States as well as Italian while in Italy. Professionally, she has worked as a Spanish teacher for foreigners since 2009. In addition to her work as a teacher and the director of the Institute Español en Chile since 2012, Francisca also taught Spanish classes to diplomats and members of the UN (United Nations) in the ECLAC (Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean) for a year. Film and linguistics are her two great passions, so her classes often include movies and series from Spanish-speaking countries.

María Guadalupe Santano

Spanish Teacher
María Guadalupe Santano holds a Bachelor’s degree in Hispanic Philology from the Extremadura University, in Spain. She has completed two Master’s degrees at the same university: one in Teacher Training, and one in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language. To complement her formal studies, she has taken various courses, including one which certified her as a DELE examiner. She has a great deal of experience, as she has taught Spanish to students of all levels and ages, from children to adults. Additionally, she has prepared many students for the DELE exam, with excellent results. In her free time, María loves to travel, although her true passion is literature, which she demonstrates in her classes. Thanks to her work, María gets to explore her two fields of interest, language and teaching, and both of which have been enriched by her experiences in classes with people from all over the world. 

Ángela Galdames

Spanish Teacher
Ángela holds a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish Literature and Linguistics, as well as a Degree in Aesthetics with a concentration in Audiovisuals, both from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. She also has a Graduate Degree in the teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE) from the same institution. In 2017, she was certified by the Cervantes Institute to prepare students for the SIELE Exam (International Evaluation Service of the Spanish Language). She has taken an English course, which allows her to use English as a Foreign Language, as well as several workshops, which have added to her area of expertise. These have helped her complete her training as a professor in Hispanic language and culture. Currently Ángela is also working as a language and literature professor at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

Amílcar Noguera

Spanish Teacher
Amílcar is a professional Spanish-English-Italian translator, who graduated from the Universidad Central de Venezuela in 2010. He has a wide knowledge of translation techniques for technical manuals and texts related to the IT field. In 2012 he earned an Associate Degree in the Teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language from the same Universidad Central de Venezuela and since then has taught Spanish for both general and business purposes. Currently, he provides services for the Australian Embassy in Santiago. He defines himself as a "citizen of the world" with a friendly personality and adaptablility to any type of situation.

Marianela Ernst Munita

Spanish Teacher
Marianela graduated from the Universidad de Chile, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Hispanic Linguistics and Literature. She also took theater, poetry and cinema workshops and studied French at the Chilean-French Institute of Culture. She has participated in a variety of seminars, including: European Dramaturgy, Children's Literature, Women's Writing, and Cultural Management. At first, she worked as a style editor but later she took interest in Spanish teaching. She has been teaching since 2007 and she truly enjoys it. Marianela has worked with several language schools, thus she has a vast knowledge in different teaching methodologies.

Catalina Espinosa

Spanish Teacher
She holds a degree in Education with concentrations in French and French Teaching from the Metropolitan University of Education Sciences (2012). In 2010 and 2011, she moved to Saint-Céré, France, to teach Spanish to children and young adults in different schools in the Toulouse region of southern France. Through this experience, French became Catalina’s second language. She also realized her love of teaching Spanish language and culture, and dedicated herself to this passion upon her return to Chile. Since 2011, she has taught Spanish privately and in language schools to students from all over the world Catalina has an artistic side. For more than six years, she participated in her university’s chorus, which led her to tour throughout South America. She also participated in various theater, storytelling, and plastic arts groups. These interests have greatly enriched her work as a teacher of foreign languages, along with her love of learning about new cultures and traveling.  

Sabina Canales

Spanish Teacher
Sabina Canales holds a Degree in Language and Literature from the University Alberto Hurtado. She finished college in 2019, but she has been teaching general and business Spanish as a volunteer to immigrants and in language centers since 2018. This experience has allowed her to learn different contexts and adapt to her students, since every environment is different. In 2020, she completed a post- graduate course in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language from the Catholic University of Chile. She has also been certified as a SIELE and DELE examiner, and can prepare students for the DELE in all levels A1-C2 and school. This has enabled her to help foreigners obtain the best grades possible in their Spanish exams. The linguistics research projects mainly focus on phonetics, which have helped to enrich her abilities in explaining oral Chilean Spanish.
